Apparently there was a section about the song in Brampton Guardian, which is already some great exposure within the city. But with the internet, we have the power to make this shit viral.

Let’s get everybody reppin’ Brampton.

The Walking Dead Craze

Okay, I still don’t understand. AMC’s The Walking Dead is back tonight with its millions and millions of viewers probably dying to dive into season 4. I only watched half of the first season and could not get into it. I thought it dragged on, and while it reflected the story’s atmosphere, it was just too boring for me. But the way people are dying to see this next season, I’m considering watching it again. I just don’t know. So here’s a quick poll because I haven’t had one in a while. I’m curious to know how many people watch the show because it is actually awesome, or they just want to be a part of the craze.

YouTube Music Covers

In the words of Zeek Power, who this blog post is for, “What’s crack-a-lackin party people?”

Alrighty. Seriously. How is everyone doing today? I hope the answer is fantastic, because every day should be fantastic!

I wanted to blog about this days ago. I don’t necessarily do this on a daily basis, but I do enjoy listening to YouTube music covers. Usually this is when I’m curious to hear other peoples’ renditions of any given song. While I was surfing YouTube covers, I came by a dude that goes by the name, “Zeek Power” who’s covers I am now obsessed with. Everybody should check him out. He’s got a very different sound, and a beautiful voice.

Also, before anyone accuses me of enjoying it just because of the accent, I didn’t know he had one until after I decided I was a fan.

Here’s a link to his channel, and one of his covers that I really liked. 🙂

Burn My Bridges

I have recently had the song “Burning Bridges” by One Republic locked into my head. It’s even more than when I first heard it.

Generally, people talk about walls they put up and tearing those down. What does “I want you to burn my bridges down” mean to you?

Sidenote: My view ratings have shot up recently and I still don’t entirely know what it is. I have been very inactive lately (which I apologize for). When I checked my stats in hopes of finding the source, there were many hits listed under unknown, but the highest of the known were searches related to “The Walking Dead.” I laughed to myself about that one considering the post I referred to it in was as a joke. xD

5 AM Thank You

I jus wanted to thank everyone who is following my blog and those people who have read through it, even looked at it. I appreciate that people are just clicking what I’m posting. It’s been a while since my last post, but the followers and increasing number of visitors are inspiring me. Thank you so much for reading, and don’t be too shy to drop a comment. *_^

Video Games’ Age Requirements

A couple of days ago, I went to Target with my brother so that he could buy the latest Grand Theft Auto game. The reason he needed me to go with him was because he wasn’t old enough to buy it. I also didn’t mind going because I want to play it and he was paying. But that’s beside the point I’m trying to make and the question I’m working to arrive at.

When he was ready to cash out the game, the customer service rep. asked him if he was 17. First of all, I have no idea why they ask you why you’re 17, when the cover of the game says 18+. Again, that’s just a side question and beside the point. “No, but my sister is,” my brother told him. He had a slight smile on his face. I wasn’t sure why he was amused. Perhaps it was a questioning smile because my brother was using me to buy the game and I was sort of off to the side barely paying any attention. Maybe he wanted me to verify that I was in fact okay with him buying the game. “Yeah, I’m buying it.” I told him.

He just shrugged. “I don’t really care.”

“You don’t check people’s IDs?” I asked.

“What ever. I’m not going to ruin your night, you know.”

And as I thought about that, I realized that to be a very reasonable and satisfying answer. Is it really necessary to check ID? Many children are going to end up getting the game anyways if their parents don’t get it for them. Hell, if the parents forbid it, it generally just makes the child want it more. It’s just a video game. There may be certain things you don’t want children to be seeing in them, that’s understandable.

But my question is…

How seriously should this rule to verify that a person is of age before selling them a video game be taken?

“I’m studying! I swear it.”

This is my mini list of TV shows that will keep you interested in your courses. School is generally boring, but if it isn’t picking up, here’s a great approach in trying to pick up a little fun while still feeling like you’re getting work done.

Of course there’s a course for everything, but there are way too many areas of study and way too many shows to list here. So I chose a few basic fields of study and shows that are still currently airing.

Accounting – The Big Bang Theory

download
The first few seasons were brilliant, then it lost its charm in my opinion. This one’s kind of a joke. Accounting involves a lot of numbers, and with The Big Bang Theory consistently at the top of the charts in terms of viewers, its ratings involve a lot of numbers as well.

Administrative Studies – Luther

luther

Luther is a crime drama series which focuses around a murder detective who often handles situations in ways which the authority of higher powers is challenged and morals are questioned. These situations may allow for answers in studying or developing administrative structures.

This is one of my all-time favourite shows.

Business – Sons of Anarchy

images

While this is a show like the above in which authority and ethics are questioned, a large part of it is how this Motorcycle club fits into the setting and works around these challenges. Also, how, when, and who they make deals with in order for a functional system.

This is also one of my favourites.

Communication Studies – The Walking Dead

the-walking-dead

This is sort of another joke. I fail to see the appeal of this show. But it is extremely popular among an extremely wide audience. More of my friends watch this show over the several other great shows that I have recommended. It doesn’t speak to me, but it speaks to nearly everyone else. Thus…, communication studies?

Criminology – Hannibal

hannibal2

I actually stopped following this show. But Hannibal Lecter’s character is fascinating and allows a great gateway into the mind of a criminal.

Another good show, which is probably the likely and more popular choice would be Dexter.

Disaster & Emergency Management – The Vampire Diaries

With all of the destruction and madness that occurs in this show, this choice pretty much speaks for itself. I don’t know how any of these people are still sane. Are they? Well, they’re not human, so I suppose it’s difficult to judge. Then again, we’re just talking about management, not psychology.

English & Professional/Creative Writing – Once Upon a Time

once-upon-a-time-season-2-poster_652x435

I genuinely think that this is something that anyone in writing should take a look at. The ability to intertwine the stories the way that the writers do is commendable. The show uses classic stories which most people know, and it’s a great source of studying how to make an old story new and ways to change a story in order to make it interesting in current time, as well as introduce it as something new entirely.

Health & Society – Arrow

arrow_ver2_xlg

Well, look at Stephen Amell. It will inspire you to read up on some health blogs and what not in your free time. And as far as the actual show goes, a good way to understand society is to look at the different types of reactions achieved through the existence of vigilante—his actions and what he stands for. Not only towards “the hood” as he’s currently called, but also how society behaves within itself due to this existence.

Human Rights & Equity Studies – Revenge

revenge-copy-3

There are many challenges the characters in this series face in which they are helpless due to the actions of others. It gives you an insight into the power of various positions and has you questioning right from wrong. Also, Emily Thorne (the main character played by Emily Van Camp) kicks more butt than any man. I guess that just throws equity out the window. xD Seriously speaking though, having the ability to view things from a third person perspective, there is an evident ability to achieve equality as people are climbing ladders behind walls. Despite what they believe their position to be or what others believe it to be, the reason for the drama is because the power is always so left and right—everyone has the ability to be more or less powerful/successful.

Law & Society – Homeland, Suits

homelanddownload (1)

There’s not much to say. These are 2 kickass shows. If you’re in the field or not, there are definitely things to learn.

Marketing – Breaking Bad

breaking-bad-drinking-game-1024x640

Crystal Methylamine dealers for the win.

Everyone should watch this show regardless of their stream. You will learn a lot about other people. You will learn a lot about yourself. It’s one of the greatest written shows I have ever seen, with one of the most innovative concepts, and it’s coming to an end. I started it late, and I can’t recommend it enough. Better late to the party than never having been there at all. (That’s debatable actually. :/ But that would be a blog post in itself.)

Political Science/Politics – Game of Thrones

Game_of_Thrones_title_card

This show would be a great resource in studying politics, alliances, war, etc. Somehow the show has the ability to cover a span of such large areas at once, and it’s a great way of getting a view of the larger picture when trying to study relations and the behaviour of separate sectors with one another.

If you’re studying linguistics, I suppose this would be a good one as well. There are a couple tongues which I believe were created just for the series including Dothraki and Valyrian.

Well, that’s all for now. If you have a specific request which wasn’t on the list, hit me up and I’ll be happy to find you a show.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Review

512 pages. This is a large book. It is one of the books where you can see a crease down the middle of the paperback book because it splits in two when you reach near that part because it’s so big. Not only is it really thick, it is also a really good book.

I’m thinking back now to a couple of weeks ago when I tweeted: “I will surprised if the #TMI movie is good, but I’ll still be disappointed when (if) it’s not.”

It’s evident that my expectations for the movie were pretty darn low.

Let me start with discussing the cast.

Lily Collins is so pretty. I thought she was beautiful before the movie and was ecstatic when I found out she got the part of Clary. She completely fit the dime in my opinion. Her hair was a little darker than the “carrot colour” I expected having read the book, but I liked how it looked. The earliest I remember seeing Lily Collins in a movie was back in 2009, in the Blind Side. I haven’t seen Stuck In Love yet, but I really want to. She did well in the few parts she had in Priest.

I even watched that stupid movie that came out, Mirror Mirror, just for her. Needless to say I thought it was garbage and that it made every actor look worse than they are. I was even more disappointed that Tarsem Singh was the one who directed Mirror Mirror, because I expect good movies from him. But back to the Mortal Instruments… she proved that she has lots of potential as an actress. She seems natural, although I did feel that there was a little bit of excessive tearing up. Still, she was pretty great.
On to Alec and Isabelle… Kevin Zegers English accent was convincing alongside Jamie’s, so well done to him. Also, he’s Canadian, which is awesome. He was good at acting like a jerk. Isabelle was not quite what I expected. Jemima West pulled her off well though. I liked her less in the book than I did in the movie. Still, what’s important is that in the movie she was portrayed as the badass butt kicker she was in the book. I didn’t feel like I was missing out on understanding Clary’s emotions, despite the movie not having the same first-person advantage of Clary discussing her feelings with the receiver.

Last, and most definitely not the least, Jamie Campbell Bower. I did not at all expect to like him as Jace. When he was cast, I was completely against it. He was the only actor/actress cast that I actually had an issue with. It had nothing to do with his acting abilities. He’s just not how I initially pictured Jace. In the book, I always pictured Jace to have a much more jutting bone structure, as opposed to Jamie’s smooth angular face. There wasn’t much more to it. Jamie’s appearance is just softer than how I imagined Wayland. That being said, Jamie embodied the character magnificently.

He had fantastic line delivery, and was a pro at playing vain. In one of his comic-con interviews he said, “Yeah, I played him as a sassy bitch.” He also portrayed Jace’s inner character really well. Someone who is extremely knowledgeable about what they do (being a shadowhunter), and seems fairly graceful most of the time, but he does screw up and the whiny and unaware child within still appears every so often.

More characters: Luke, Simon, and Jocelyn had great fits casted. Robert and Aidan were perfect. Magnus was not quite what I expected. I can’t remember exactly how he was described in the book, but I always pictured him as Michael Sheen. Hodge wasn’t quite how I pictured him either. I thought of him as shorter and wider (not fat exactly). Valentine was not at all how I imagined him to be, but I really enjoyed the interpretation. I also loved Jonathan Rhys Meyers, so I’m a little biased to the casting choice. The whole time I was watching him, I was just waiting for someone to be like, “The eff is up with your hair brah?” It was an awesome look, hahahah.

I do wish that the movie had enough time to make you love Luke as much as you did in the book.

This was the most magical movie I have seen in a long time. It gave me the feeling that reminds me of my love for movies.

I didn’t like how they inserted all of the random clips of Valentine when Hodge was talking about him. It was unnecessary. They didn’t exactly help to understand the character nor piece things together.

The settings were beautiful. The halls within their institute, as well as the rooftop were almost exactly how I pictured them. The roof was a bit more beautiful though.

The soundtrack was all marvelous. I of course, being a huge Demi fan, loved her song the most. The scene at which it played was absolutely perfect and it created for a very enchanting atmosphere. Almost is Never Enough was a great collaboration too.

I expect that the movie will be appreciated more by those who read the books though. I felt emotionally connected through a lot of it, but that’s just because you already understand the depth of the characters and you can’t take that away even if you haven’t seen it in the movie, because you already know so much from the book. I enjoyed it a lot and most critics didn’t like it. The movie was an enhancement to the book for me. I mean, the parts I didn’t like, screw it. But the fact that so many things were brought to life the way I pictured them was impressive and also very enjoyable from my end. Many critics may not have liked the story, but the thing is, they had to chop down a ton. I have learned that every page of screenplay amounts to approximately 1 minute of screen time. 1 page of screenplay would generally be much longer than 1 page of the book. Therefore, they’re missing a LOT. That being said, the parts chosen for the movie made sense and were a job well done.

It’s worth a watch. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, only listen to this one and “have a little faith.”

The trailer had nothing on the movie. It didn’t sell it at all.

The effects and visuals all looked good. I’m glad the movie wasn’t unnecessarily in 3D. It might also be that technology is just getting so good now because it has been a while since I’ve seen a movie with crappy effects. The costuming was great. It fit the descriptions in the book and looked cool. In fact, I want to dress up as a shadowhunter for Halloween now.

I’m also crazy sick of hearing every fantasy movie based off of a book that’s made be related to the “Twilight franchise” and the articles that ask whether it will be as successful. Honestly, it’s not even relevant. Not even mentioning the fact that City of Bones was much more well written (oh wait, I guess I did mention it), Twilight was nowhere nearly as well made. It may have had success, but it wasn’t good. I don’t know how much it means that so much “success” for that movie also comes due to haters hating on how bad it was.

I should stop bashing now though because I actually liked the Twilight books. Haha. Still, the two are not relevant.”

I will stop here, ending with a quote from the movie that I really liked. I can’t recall if it was in the book or not. “The world’s the same. You’re the one who’s different.”

Bring Me To Life

I thought up of this game that I believe has the potential to be fun and interesting, even insightful.

It’s called, well you know what it’s called because of the title. No, it’s not called “well you know what it’s called because of the title”. It is called, “Bring Me To Life.”

The whole idea behind this is the deep understanding we think we have (whether we do or not) of characters we see, read, and hear (or hear of).
On a level of personal experience, I have often first thought of a fictional character before an actual existing person when given a description of someone.
This game is all about who (specifically fictional characters) you think of, given different characteristic(s).

Instructions:
I will put down a list of titles, such as “lawyer”. Using the title (or adjective) given, the player lists down the first fictional character that comes to mind.

Example: For lawyer, an answer could be “Saul Goodman” or “Harvey Specter”.

Please don’t be afraid to post comments. You can post as a guest and I promise you that I’m unable to see your email and so is everyone else who visits the page. You won’t receive spam either.

If you would like to post the game to your blog, let me know and I’ll tag you in my post.

In a few days, I’ll post my choices too. If you have any other interesting character recommendations, please let me know those as well.

Anyways, here’s the list. Please participate.

Fill in the blank.
The first name that comes into my head when I think of … is ______.

1. lawyer
2. doctor
3. businessman
4. officer
5. selfless
6. selfish
7. badass
8. aggressive, but loser
9. crazy
10. vulnerable or wimpy
11. creep
12. frightening but hot
13. conflicted
14. innocent
15. forever mysterious

If people play, maybe I’ll do another list. But this is it for now. Please post where the characters are from alongside their names.

Endnote: The title of this game is taken from an Evanescence song. I recommend it. It’s awesome!

10 Random Things (about me)

Darci, blogger of Freedom of Excess tagged me in this fun little game that’s been popular among fellow HerCampus bloggers as of late.

So I have decided, that it is time for me to publish my post too!
This is actually about a week overdue.

10 Things:

1. I was born in New Jersey. I grew up mostly in Canada, but a majority of the people I meet think I’m from India at first glance, presumably because of my skin colour and turban.

2. I have never done drugs (you know, the “bad” or illegal ones), nor have I wanted to. I felt the need to mention that I was talking about “bad” drugs because I’m sure at least one reader would deem it necessary to ask, “So you’ve never taken medicine?”

3. I think of a song for an unusually large number of situations. Even with random things that people say, songs pop into my head.

4. I get very excited during holidays and want to dress up for and celebrate everything. It doesn’t matter whether I know the details about what the holiday celebrates, or if I believe in what I know.

5. I’m stealing this one a little bit from my tagger. I tend to react in a more emotionally connected way with fictional characters. I cry all the time when reading good books or watching good shows/movies. Occasionally when listening to good music as well.

Usually I get more angry in real life, and react with sad emotions with the fictional content.

6. I am obsessed with movies and TV shows. So when I was trying to come up with random facts about me, the majority of things I came up with was based on the topic. So I decided To dedicate about half my list to TV shows/movies since that’s what started this blog in the first place.

–>7. The fastest I believe I ever caught up to a TV series was this summer. I watched 5 seasons of Sons of Anarchy in 5 days/6 nights. They are 13 episode seasons of almost an hour per episode.

–> 8. I can quote nearly the entire Pirates of the Caribbean. I used to be able to do it like a complete pro, but I’m a little rusty now. I haven’t seen it in a while, but having said that, it’s also probably the movie that I have seen over again the most times.

9. I can watch a good tv show for hours & hours. I used to love playing RPG video games, but now I start to feel stomach sick, get a headache, and my eyes throb when I play for more than about an hour.

10. I believe that I should end this post with something inspirational.

Losing is an obstacle. Failure is allowing that obstacle to be the end. If you keep reaching, it’s impossible to fail. – Tejnoor

That’s all for now. Have a great day everyone. Thank you for reading, and as always, feel free to leave a comment below.
